What happens when a neat freak and a slob become roommates? The Western Texas College Drama Department invites audiences to find out with its upcoming production of Neil Simon's classic comedy, The Odd Couple. Performances are November 11–13 at 7:00 p.m. each evening in the Western Texas College Fine Arts Theater, Building 19.
Filled with sharp humor, unforgettable characters, and everyday frustrations that anyone can relate to, The Odd Couple tells the story of two unlikely roommates whose friendship gets put to the test.
Oscar Madison is a carefree, messy sportswriter who enjoys poker nights, takeout food, and living life on his own terms. His friend Felix Ungar is the complete opposite. Felix likes everything clean, organized, and done just right. When Felix separates from his wife, Oscar offers him a place to stay. What begins as a kind gesture quickly turns into a hilarious battle over housekeeping, habits, and personal space. From arguments over dirty dishes to disagreements about almost everything, the two discover that friendship doesn't always make living together easy.
First performed on Broadway in 1965, The Odd Couple became one of Neil Simon's best-known comedies, entertaining generations of audiences through stage productions, a hit movie, and television adaptations. Beneath the laughter, the story explores friendship, understanding, and learning to accept people for who they are.
The WTC production brings this beloved comedy to the Snyder community while giving college theater students an opportunity to develop their talents and gain experience performing before live audiences. Directed by Ray Newton, Professor of Drama and Drama Production Director, the cast includes David Vigil as Speed; Manual Menchaca as Murray; Conner Vaughan as Roy; Conner Resse as Vinnie; Daylan McGee as Oscar Madison; and Evan Jackson as Felix Unger. Grant Knipe provided technical assistance and the cast also worked as the crew for lights, sound, set and costumes.
Whether you're a longtime theater fan or looking for a fun evening out, The Odd Couple promises plenty of laughs and a reminder that sometimes the people who drive us the craziest are the friends we need most.
