Western Texas College Agriculture Department

The Agriculture Department at Western Texas College is proud to offer a wide variety of agriculture courses to help prepare students for a career in the agriculture industry. Offered as an Associate of Science Degree, the two-year agriculture program directly transfers to a four-year college or university.
Students may begin working on degrees in Ag Business, Ag Communications, Ag Economics, Ag Education, Agronomy, Animal Science, Equine Science, Food Science, General Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant and Soil Science, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Range Management, Wildlife, and Recreation Management. The Agriculture Department has outstanding Facilities as well as Meats Judging Team, Swine Show Team, and Ag Club; and offers several Scholarship opportunities.

FACILITIES
The Western Texas College Agriculture/Rodeo Complex consists of 270 acres, with 82 acres in cultivation and 175 acres in native grasses. The complex provides valuable hands-on experience to supplement students' coursework and is home to the college's breeding swine program.
On average, there are 15-20 head of breeding swine maintained at the college farm. Several litters of pigs are raised at the facility on a yearly basis



AG CLUB
The Agriculture Club is a student organization on campus that is associated with the Texas Junior College Agriculture Association. The club hosts monthly meetings on campus that all students are invited to attend. The club is also very involved with the community and promotes the Agriculture Department of WTC at a wide array of events and activities.

SCHOLARSHIPS
MEATS JUDGING TEAM
WTC competes in the A Division of the American Meat Science Association. Team members are selected from the Live Animal and Carcass Evaluation classes. Teams evaluate beef, lamb, and pork carcasses; evaluate wholesale beef and pork cuts; and learn to quality and yield grade beef carcasses.

SWINE SHOW TEAM
Members of the Swine Show Team exhibit the college's breeding stock at the Fort Worth Stock Show and the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. The members are very involved in making decisions concerning the breeding stock, such as choosing boars and also caring for the livestock throughout the year.
