Western Texas College and Hardin-Simmons University recently formalized a new articulation agreement designed to help students transfer more smoothly from WTC into bachelor’s degree programs at Hardin-Simmons University.
Representatives from both institutions met last week as the agreement officially established a clear transfer pathway for students who begin their college journey at Western Texas College and continue toward a four-year degree at Hardin-Simmons.
The partnership aligns academic requirements between the two schools, helping reduce obstacles that can delay graduation while creating a more seamless transition process for students.
As part of the agreement, students may transfer up to 66 credit hours into eligible bachelor’s degree programs at Hardin-Simmons University, creating a more affordable and efficient route to degree completion.
“I’m thrilled about the partnership with Western Texas College and Hardin-Simmons University because we now have the ability to give students a clear pathway to a 4-year or higher degree,” said Dr. Laurie Sharp, President of Western Texas College. “We’re excited to start with students at the beginning and then hand them off to a good place.”
Stephanie Ducheneaux, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Western Texas College, said the agreement gives students added confidence as they plan for the future.
“It’s always nice when you work at a community college to be able to tell the students that they have a path forward,” Ducheneaux said. “When we make partnerships like this, it makes it easier for them to know the transition is there.”
Leaders from both institutions said the agreement also reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to higher education opportunities across West Texas while supporting workforce development and long-term student success.
Both institutions plan to review the agreement regularly to ensure academic programs remain aligned and continue meeting the evolving needs of students throughout the region.
