Denim jeans on blue background

Western Texas College will participate in Denim Day and host several guests who will speak about sexual assault prevention and awareness on April 29. Western Texas College (WTC) encourages everyone to wear denim on Wednesday, April 29, as a visible statement to show support for sexual assault survivors and help raise awareness about prevention and education.

Peace Over Violence initiated the first Denim Day in response to a rape conviction that the Italian Supreme Court overturned in 1999. The ruling blamed the victim for wearing tight jeans. The next day, women in the Italian Parliament protested by wearing jeans. Thanks to the hard work of Peace over Violence, Denim Day evolved into a global movement to highlight awareness of victim-blaming and destructive myths about sexual assaults.

Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m., WTC welcomes Ms. Jennifer Taylor and Sergeant Tiffany Key to the Fine Arts Theater. The guests will speak to students, faculty, and staff about sexual assault prevention and awareness. The evening provides a valuable opportunity to learn more about resources, prevention strategies, and how people can support one another as a campus community.
