Western Texas College opened registration for Maymester and Summer sessions, giving students the opportunity to get ahead before the fall semester begins.
“Starting college in the summer can make a real difference,” said Laura Caswell, Assistant Vice President for Enrollment. “It helps students stay focused, complete core classes early, and walk into the fall semester ready.”
Through WTC’s Jump Start Summer program, graduating high school seniors can enroll in Maymester, Summer I, or Summer II courses and begin earning college credit early. The flexible summer schedule helps students stay on track with degree plans, reduce fall course loads, and build confidence heading into their first semester.
“In addition to academic benefits, summer enrollment can help students by using financial aid from the current academic year,” said Tevian Sides, Financial Aid Director.

Students and parents are encouraged to begin the process immediately to ensure eligibility and avoid delays.
“We realize time is short, as we just put this initiative together,” said College President, Dr. Laurie Sharp. “But I saw an opportunity that could help students and their families, and I wanted to make it immediately available.
“WTC’s summer options provide a very accessible entry point for recent high school graduates, dual credit students transitioning to full-time enrollment, and returning students looking to accelerate their progress.”
Once the required paperwork has been submitted, students will be notified by email that they can register for classes. Advisors are available to help students select courses, review degree plans, and complete registration. For assistance, students can contact the Academic and Career Advising Office at 325-574-7621 or visit in person on campus in Building 21, next to the Visitor Center.
Students taking summer classes at WTC but attending another school in the fall should consult with the intended institution to confirm the courses they are taking will transfer.
“This is a great opportunity for families to save money, and WTC will continue to offer opportunities like this for students to start strong and move forward with purpose while making it affordable,” added Dr. Sharp.
