The Western Texas College Board of Trustees proudly announces Dr. Laurie Sharp as the lone finalist for the position of College President. Dr. Sharp will succeed Dr. Barbara Beebe as College President. Beebe announced her plans to retire in January 2026 earlier this year.
“A motion passed unanimously to name Dr. Laurie Sharp as the lone finalist for the position of president at Western Texas College,” said Jason West, President of the Western Texas College Board of Trustees. “Dr. Sharp’s commitment to student success and her record of academic leadership made her the outstanding choice to lead Western Texas College into the future.”
Per Texas state law, the governing board of a public college or university must wait 21 days after publicly announcing a finalist for the position of new president. After 21 days have passed, the WTC Board of Trustees will hold an official vote to confirm Dr. Sharp as the seventh president of WTC.
Dr. Sharp holds a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Tarleton State University, a Master of Education degree, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida. She began her educational journey at Daytona State College, where she earned an Associate of Arts degree in General Education. Dr. Sharp started her career as a public school teacher, serving students in both Texas and Florida.
Once the Western Texas College Board of Trustees holds an official vote to confirm Dr. Sharp as the new president after the 21-day waiting period, she will officially assume the presidency in January of 2026.
