Flags on pole flying in air

SNYDER—Western Texas College welcomes Command Sergeant Major Corey Chester as the speaker for their annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on November 11, 2024. The event takes place at the flagpoles just outside the Scurry County Museum on campus. The College invites all Veterans and the community to attend.

“We invite everyone to join the WTC community in honoring those who have selflessly sacrificed for our freedom,” said Dr. Barb Beebe, President of Western Texas College.

“Your presence at the ceremony not only shows your appreciation but also demonstrates your support for the brave individuals who have defended our nation.”

A Veteran of the Texas Army National Guard 176th Engineer Brigade, Chester deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iraq, and Kosovo during his career that garnered him more than 25 awards. A Snyder native, he owns three businesses: Alexander's Pest & Weed Control, Chester's Auto Sales, and Alexander's Foam Insulation. Chester has served the community through his activities in the Snyder Rotary, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

“We’re honored to have Corey Chester speak this year,” said Ralph Ramon, Vice President and Dean of Student Services at Western Texas College. Ramon plans the event alongside faculty and staff.

“Every year, our Veterans Day speaker inspires and moves us,” he added. ““We’re privileged to recognize the service and sacrifice of our military men and women through this ceremony.”

Dr. Geron Scates, Mass Communications Professor and Radio Station Manager, hosts the event.

Following the ceremony, WTC will host a reception at the Scurry County Museum. The reception offers a meaningful opportunity for attendees to connect, share stories, and personally express their gratitude.

If inclement weather prevails, the ceremony will move inside the Museum.
