SNYDER—Western Texas College invites all eligible students and their parents to attend one of the upcoming Opportunity Tuition Waiver Informational Sessions. The Opportunity Tuition Waiver provides a pathway for students in Scurry County to attend WTC tuition free.

"These sessions offer vital information and an excellent chance to secure your educational future while reducing your financial worry,” said Dr. Barb Beebe, College President. “We strongly encourage our 2024 Scurry County graduates and Scurry County dual credit students to take advantage of this opportunity.”

The Opportunity Tuition Waiver covers tuition and certain fees for a maximum of fifteen credit hours per semester for Scurry County high school graduates beginning the fall semester immediately following graduation. The Waiver also covers up to twelve credit hours per semester for dual credit students enrolled in a Scurry County high school. The College requires all students taking advantage of this opportunity to perform community service hours from a WTC-Approved organization.

All Informational Sessions will take place downtown at College on the Square, 1806 26th Street. The dates are:

  • Thursday, June 27, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM

  • Monday, July 1, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM

  • Monday, July 8, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM

Attendees will explore the process and paperwork of the tuition waiver, engage in a detailed Q&A session, and earn an hour of volunteer time. Melissa Perryman, Director of Student Success, hosts the sessions.

"Not only do these sessions provide crucial information, but they also offer a way to fulfill part of your community service requirements, which are integral to the program,” said Perryman.

Eligibility requirements include a minimum GPA and community service hours, detailed as follows:

  • High School Graduates. Must register for at least twelve credit hours for the fall semester immediately following graduation, complete forty hours of community service, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75.

  • Returning Students. Must register for at least twelve credit hours, complete forty hours of community service, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75.

  • Dual Credit Students. Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50, complete twenty hours of community service, and can enroll in up to twelve credit hours.

"We have designed these sessions to guide you through the process smoothly and efficiently,” added Ralph Ramon, Vice-President and Dean of Student Services. “Your questions matter and we stand ready to assist you."

The deadline to submit all Opportunity Tuition Waiver paperwork is Thursday, July 11. Students may submit paperwork via email at otw@wtc.edu or in person at the WTC Student Success Office, located in the Library, Building 2, Room 211.
