Student Support Services

The Mission of WTC Student Support Services is to provide high-quality assistance to students in acquiring skills and confidence to successfully complete postsecondary education through academic support, career and academic advising, mentoring, tutoring, cultural enrichment, and grant aid.
WHAT IS STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES?
The Student Support Services (SSS) program provides support services to low-income students, first-generation college students, and disabled students enrolled in post-secondary education programs. The SSS program provides academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their post-secondary education. The program at Western Texas College has been in existence since Fall 2005 and is 100% funded by the federal government.


WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a current or prospective student pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree, and you must be one of the following:
low income
first-generation college student
or disabled.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES GOAL
The goal of SSS is to
Increase college retention
Increase graduation rates of its participants
Facilitate the process of transition from one level of higher education to the next.
STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES PROVIDES:
Tutorial services for any academic need
Academic, financial, or career counseling
Assistance in securing financial aid and admissions into a four-year institution
Direct financial assistance (Grant Aid) Grant Aid — Money is given to participants at the end of the Spring semester
Must be active in SSS and currently receiving Pell Grant to receive the grant aid.Summer Bridge Program
Learning Activities – Offered each semester
Cultural Events – Offered each semester.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES REQUIREMMENTS
Check in with Academic Advisor two times per semester
Attend two Cultural Activities per semester
Attend two Learning Activities per semester
Attend tutoring for one hour (When class grades fall below a C or if the class is a retake.)
Pick up monthly newsletters (one per month per semester).
