Professional Truck Driver – Class A CDL Program

Students enrolled in this program will gain the essential skills required to become professional truck drivers.

This is a non-credit Fast Track program.
Average completion time is 5 weeks (full-time) or 10 weeks (part-time).
The program meets the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) Rule.
Prepares students to test for and earn a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Completion results in a Workforce Program Certificate from Western Texas College.
New classes begin approximately every 6 weeks.

Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PMWestern Texas College is a recognized Third-Party Testing Center by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

PROGRAM PREREQUISITES
To enroll in the CDL program, the State of Texas requires that applicants meet the following qualifications:
General Requirements:
Be at least 18 years of age.
Note: Students under 21 are restricted from driving outside the State of Texas and are not eligible for the Hazardous Materials Endorsement.Have an acceptable driving record (a three-year driving record must be submitted).
Hold a current Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card or successfully pass a DOT physical exam.
Pass a drug screening.
Note: In accordance with federal regulations, drug screen results must be dated within 30 days of the program start date.
To Obtain a Class A Learner’s Permit (CLP), you must also provide:
A valid Texas Department of Transportation Class C Driver’s License.
Proof of Texas residency for at least six months.
A valid form of identification: Social Security card, Birth Certificate, or U.S. Passport.
PROGRAM COST AND FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION
The total cost of the program is $4,500. The course fee is due in full prior to the start of the program. The fee includes a DOT physical and drug screening.
This program consists of Workforce Training courses, and as such, it is not eligible for traditional academic financial aid, including Pell Grants, federal student loans, or the GI Bill. Students who wish to utilize these types of financial support should consider enrolling in the 16-week Owner/Operator Certificate Pathway.
