Locals may have noticed a subtle facelift happening to Western Texas College’s Opportunity Center on 25th Street in Snyder. Western Texas College (WTC) plans to make the location the new home for College on the Square at the end of August. With the move comes a new name: College off the Square.
Due to state funding cuts, the Correctional Officer Training program, formerly held at the Opportunity Center building, was discontinued. As a result, WTC decided to relocate College on the Square to the larger facility with recently expanded parking.
“While we know it has been beneficial for both WTC and downtown Snyder for the College to occupy the space on the square, we see this as more than a move,” said Dr. Barb Beebe, WTC President.
“It’s an opportunity to better connect with local businesses, provide the training they need for their employees, and give community members more ways to build skills without leaving Snyder.”
College on the Square (COS) has long been a go-to resource for workforce training, adult education, and community enrichment classes. By relocating to the Opportunity Center, WTC plans to expand its workforce training offerings.
“The space on 25th street gives the community additional classrooms for workforce training and classes, a larger computer lab, and plenty of easy-access parking,” said Shawn Fonville, the Dean of Career and Technical Education who oversees College on [now off] the Square. “The IADC Well-Control Training Lab is already housed at this location.”
The staff has been busy preparing for the move. A refreshed façade, fresh paint, new signage, and technology upgrades are underway to welcome members of the community.
College off the Square plans to officially open its doors with its first class on September 11, First Thursdays Paint & Dine - September. The class marks the start of a new chapter in WTC’s ongoing commitment to serving Snyder and the surrounding communities.
College off the Square will be located at 2210 25th Street in Snyder. For more information, contact the staff directly at 325-574-6581 or navigate to wtc.edu/cos.
