Intro to Blueprint Reading for Welders (3-2-4)

  1. Basic Course Information
    1. Course Description: A study of industrial blueprints. Emphasis placed on terminology, symbols, graphic description, and welding processes. Includes systems of measurement and industry standards. Also includes interpretation of plans and drawings used by industry to facilitate field application and production.
    2. Any required prerequisites: None, Introductory
    3. Required Grade for Enrolling in the Next Course in this Sequence: Satisfactory Completion
  2. Student Learning Outcomes
    1. Define terms and abbreviations
    2. Identify and explain object views, lines, and dimensions
    3. Identify, explain, and interpret weld symbols
    4. Identify structural shapes
    5. Demonstrate the proper use of measuring devices
    6. Read and interpret blueprints
    7. Read welding detail drawings
    8. Calculate dimensions and material
  3. Testing Requirements
    1. The final exam will take place in the welding classroom.
    2. Students are NOT allowed to use their book or notes of any kind while taking their tests and exams.
    3. Students are allowed to use a calculator.

    1. Attendance 10%
    2. Homework/Quizzes 10%
    3. Final Exam 20%
    4. Welding Fabrication Projects – 60%
