SHS Class of 1971 Gives WTC Scholarship Funds in Memory of Lou McMillan

06/16/22

SNYDER—The Snyder High School Class of 1971 generously donated $9,000 for Snyder High School graduates attending Western Texas College in the fall of 2022. The 1971 alumni wanted to honor beloved classmate Lou McMillan.

McMillan passed in February of 2019.

“Lou was the heart of the class,” said Nancy Wilson, one of McMillan’s classmates. “She organized our first reunion, and every reunion we’ve had since then.”

Most of the donations came from members of the class of 1971, a few from their parents, and some from individuals who wanted to contribute.

“We really wanted to honor her,” added Sandy Hodges, another one of McMillan’s classmates. Hodges sold Lamar and Travis Junior High t-shirts to help raise funds.

Recipients and future Westerners include Jose Cabrera, Abigail Facio, Emily Ann Dye, Taryn Nobles, Natalie Reid, and Shelby Salinas. The College is dispersing all monies to the students for the 2022-2023 school year.

Classmates and family members presented the funds to Patricia Claxton, Western Texas College’s Chief Financial Officer, on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Those present included Nancy Wilson, Sandy Hodges, McMillan’s husband Laddie, mother Ethel Head, and granddaughter Jeanie McMillan.

“All of us at WTC are delighted to help the Class of 1971 honor Lou,” Claxton commented.

“Congratulations to the scholarship recipients and best wishes for a productive and successful academic year.”
