
WTC Working with Police on Investigation
SNYDER—Western Texas College announced that they are working with the Snyder Police concerning a fraud investigation regarding a CARES Act check issued to a student.
“WTC filed a police report and we are currently working with our bank and the police while the investigation is ongoing,” said Dr. Barb Beebe, College President. “Due to the diligence and dedication of our bank and our employees, WTC has not suffered any monetary losses.”
Western Texas College received $278,057.50 to support students who incurred expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The College issued CARES Act Fund checks to 143 eligible students in the amount of $1,944.46. The students receiving the funds met certain criteria as defined by the federal government.
“Since this investigation is ongoing, we cannot release additional information or comment on the details,” added Beebe.
“We appreciate the support of our bank and our hard-working, local police investigating this matter so that it can be quickly resolved.”
