WTC to Hold 50th Anniversary Photo Identification Luncheon

SNYDER—Western Texas College announced today that they will hold a photo identification luncheon on July 9, 2019. WTC President Dr. Barb Beebe thought a luncheon would be an enjoyable way to get the community involved in determining dates, locations, and identities of people in photos from the WTC archives.

“We are reaching out to the people in our community for help, especially if they attended WTC or lived in Snyder anytime between 1968 and 2000,” said Jennifer Evans, WTC Director of Library Services.

Evans and Glenda Boyd, Director of Public Service, applied for and received a WTC Inspire Grant from the WTC Foundation. The grant allows for the purchase of equipment to preserve, organize, and identify archival materials. In addition, the grant included an internship for Keiko Sanders, a graduate student from California, to work as the Archives Assistant.

“We knew going in that we had some photos that weren’t identified,” she noted, “but we also knew we had a community of people that could help us.”

Evans also wants the community to know the importance of archives.

“Archives can provide context to events, places, and people that broaden the scope of our understanding. Photos and other materials tell stories and give us a better sense of ourselves and our culture.”

Lunch will start promptly at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, in the Visitor Center.

RSVPs are required for the luncheon and can be made by calling Jennifer Evans at 325-574-7676.
