WTC’s Phi Theta Kappa Receives Texas Regional Milestone Award
SNYDER—The Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) presented the Texas Regional Milestone Award to Psi Zeta, the Western Texas College Chapter of PTK, at the 2018 Texas Regional Convention held earlier this month.
Phi Theta Kappa is the international honors society for community colleges and two-year academic programs. Membership in the organization is by invitation only. Students invited to join have attained a 3.5 GPA and must maintain a cumulative average 3.0 to remain in good standing.
"I am incredibly proud of my students for this achievement,” said Jennifer Evans, Psi Zeta Chapter Advisor and WTC Director of Library Services.
Phi Theta Kappa presents the Texas Regional Milestone Award to the chapter that has reached a significant milestone during the preceding year. There is no application. The recipient of the award receives one scholarship to the Texas Honors Institute. The Honors Institute is an intensive exploration of the Honor Study topic, featuring internationally recognized speakers, small group seminars, educational field trips and experiential activities.
“To me, this award means that the Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa expects great things from Psi Zeta chapter—and we plan to deliver,” added Evans.
In addition to the Milestone Award, PTK also named Psi Zeta as a 2018 REACH Chapter. Phi Theta Kappa's REACH Rewards program recognizes and rewards Phi Theta Kappa chapters that excel in the area of membership development. Psi Zeta will receive special recognition in the form of Phi Theta Kappa graduation stoles to be worn during graduation and to keep in celebration of their college completion milestone.
Psi Zeta also achieved Five Star status from PTK by completing the honors society’s five levels of engagement plan that reflects the scholarly ideals of Phi Theta Kappa.
The Phi Theta Kappa Spring Induction Ceremony at WTC for new members will be held at 7 p.m. on April 12, 2018, in the Fine Arts Theater.
Evans highly encourages WTC students who have been invited to join Phi Theta Kappa to take advantage of the membership.
“A student’s membership in Phi Theta Kappa provides them with invaluable opportunities for leadership, scholarships, and personal growth.”
