EXECUTIVE SESSION: The Board will go into executive session at this time. The executive session will be held under the provisions of Texas Government Code, Chapter 551, including but not limited to, Section 551.071, Section 551.072, Section 551.074, Section 551.076, Section 551.082(a), and Section 551.083.

Minutes

The Board of Trustees of Western Texas College met in a regular Board meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019 in the Palmer Hall Boardroom.

Present:           Mr. Drew Bullard, Mr. Eddie Peterson, Mr. Tim Riggan, Mr. Scott Richburg

Absent:            Dr. Jay Kidd, Mr. Mike McWilliams, Mr. Lee Presswood

Mr. Peterson, board vice president, called the meeting to order and Mr. Riggan gave the invocation.

Motion by Mr. Riggan, seconded by Mr. Bullard to approve the board minutes of September 9, 2019.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Mr. Bullard, seconded by Mr. Richburg to approve the financial information for September 2019.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Mr. Riggan, seconded by Mr. Richburg to approve contract for Mr. Kyle Cooper, Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Mr. Riggan, seconded by Mr. Richburg to approve the fall small class report.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Mr. Riggan, seconded by Mr. Bullard to award Welcome Home Builders the proposal for siding on the WTC apartments and to negotiate the amount up to $189,000.  Motion carried unanimously.

Consideration of approval of nominee for the Scurry County Appraisal District Board of Directors died from a lack of a motion. 

Mr. Britt Canada presented the enrollment report.  We currently have 2009 students which is down 170 from last year.  Our contact hours are 328,288; a decrease of 17,840 from last year.  Full-time students are 564 which is the same as last year.  Our part-time students are1,445 which is 169 down from last year.  We have 33.5% Hispanics which is an increase from last year.  Scurry County students is 23.9% which is a 2.9% increase from last year.  Mitchell County and Nolan County have the largest number of service area students.  Total students served is 2,225 and total contact hours is 344,070.

Dr. Beebe stated Nicole Cooper is our new Director of International Student Services.

Due to our Veterans Day celebration, the November board luncheon will be held at noon and the board meeting at 1:00 pm. 

An October calendar was presented to the board.
