Cody Cox took over the reins of the men’s and women’s golf teams at Western Texas College during the fall of 2007. During his two years as the skipper of the WTC golf teams, the Westerners and Lady Westerners have responded with resounding success. The women’s team qualified for the national meet in each of Coach Cox’s first two seasons, while the men’s team qualified during the 2007-2008 year.

The 2008-2009 year saw the Lady Westerners ranked as high as 2nd in the national golf polls (NJCAA Division I). The men’s program was also ranked, climbing as high as 3rd in the nation. The Lady Westerners hosted the NJCAA Regional tournament at WTC’s Sammy Baugh Golf Course on the WTC campus on March 28-29th, defeating a highly ranked McLennan College team for the championship by 22 strokes. The women’s team would eventually finish 6th in the nation, as they competed in the national championship in Daytona Beach Florida.

Known as an outstanding golf technician and instructor, Cox coached the US Junior Golf Team which traveled to Cuernavaca, Mexico in 2008 to compete in the international junior golf championships. His USA team defeated Mexico, Canada, and South America to win the international competition.

Prior to his arrival at Western Texas College, Cox’s coaching stops included Medina Valley High School near San Antonio and Frenship High School in Lubbock, Texas from 2005-2007. He also coached boys and girls golf at Snyder High School in Snyder, Texas from 2001-2005. The Lady Tigers qualified for the Texas State High School Golf Championship in each of those years, with the team winning the state championship in 2003 and 2005. The boy’s team from Snyder also won a state championship in 2003.

Cox and his wife Lacee have two sons, Brayson and Brandt.
