Coach Rick Hughes, originally from Nebraska, is a graduate of South Dakota State University (SDSU) and Midwestern State University (MSU). Currently, he is entering his 5th season at the helm of the Women’s Volleyball program at Western Texas College.
In 2001, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from SDSU. During his time there, Coach Hughes participated on the men’s club team for one and a half years and was a student assistant with the women’s volleyball team from 1998 through 2001.
Upon graduating, Coach Hughes attended Graduate School at MSU and obtained his master’s in Kinesiology in December of 2003. While at MSU, he served as one of two graduate assistants with the women’s volleyball team. Some of his responsibilities included recruiting, scouting, on court training, and setter development.
In addition to his educational background, Coach Hughes has also coached for several camps and club teams. His camp experience includes the University of Illinois, University of Texas at Dallas, Midwestern State University, and various satellite camps. Some of the clubs he has coached for include Pipestone/Jasper JO’s (MN), Red River (TX), and Tornado Volleyball Club (TX).
Coach Hughes has been married to his wife Randi for 4 years and they have a son, Mathen and two dogs, Coco and Bevo.

Assistant Coach Randi Hughes is a graduate of Midwestern State University (MSU). Currently, she is entering her 5th season at the helm of the Women’s Volleyball program at Western Texas College.
In 2004, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (K-4). In addition to her educational background, Coach Hughes has also helped out with several camps at the University of Illinois and helped start the Snyder Volleyball Club.
