Advanced Pipe Welding (5-3-6)

  1. Basic Course Information
    1. Course Description: Advanced topics involving welding of pipe using the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process. Topics include electrode selection, equipment setup, and safe shop practices. Emphasis on weld positions 5G and 6G using various electrodes.
    2. Any required prerequisites: Freshman level courses or permission of instructor
    3. Required Grade for Enrolling in the Next Course in this Sequence: Satisfactory Completion
  2. Student Learning Outcomes
    1. Describe equipment and required pipe preparation and perform 5G and 6G welds using various electrodes.
  3. Testing Requirements
    1. The final exam will take place in the welding classroom.
    2. Students are NOT allowed to use their book or but can use notes of any kind while taking their tests and exams.
    3. Students are allowed to use a calculator. 
  4. Major Course Requirements
    1. Attendance - 10%
    2. Participation – 20%
    3. Welding Fabrication Projects – 70%

Students will begin advanced pipe welds with various electrodes in various positions and continue to practices safety in class.

1st Position of Advanced Pipe Welding – Up-Hill

8-12

2nd Position of Advanced Pipe Welding – Vertical Position

13-14

Advanced Pipe cutting for Visual Inspection

15-16

Pipe Prep and other gas and arc welding testing
