Lady Westerners Dominate Field at NCAA Golf Tournament

The Lady Westerners dominated the field at the snow-shortened University of Mary Hardin-Baylor lady Crusader Invitational golf tournament – their second win in as many tournaments this spring.

The one-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-73, 5,873-yard layout at Mill Creek Golf Course in Salado.

WTC fired a two round total of 654, carding a 327 on both days, to finish 16 shots ahead of Redlands Community College, the only other junior college in the tournament.

The Lady Westerners topped host school Mary Hardin-Baylor by 84 strokes.

“They beat teams such as Redlands and Lubbock Christian pretty easily, so I was pleased with their performance,” said head Cody Cox.

The tournament was shortened to one day due to concerns about cold weather moving into Central Texas.

Katie Mundy was the second place medalist and earned a spot on the all-tournament team with a two-round score of 154 (77, 77). Hollie Weatherburn fired a 161 (80, 81) for fourth place and an all-tournament team nod, while Sam Soto earned an all-tournament selection and sixth place with a 165(83, 82).

 Haley Hise recorded a 179 (87, 92) and Danica Weddle netted a 183 (96, 87). Kelsey Sosebee played as a medalist and shot a 182 (98, 84).

The ladies will tee-off next at the St. Edwards Invitational at Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin.
