Financial Aid Department Warns Students About Scams

According to the Financial Aid Office, students are receiving a financial aid notification which is a scam.

The letter looks ‘official’ and notifies the student that it is time to apply for 2010-2011 aid. The letter includes the name of the college the student is currently attending and lists their filing status as ‘pending’ and includes an application with $49.00 application fee.

We have also received information that students are receiving calls asking for their financial aid information. Remember that you should never give out your personal information including your social security card number to any one you do not know.

The WTC Financial Aid Department would like to remind you to be wary of scholarships with an application fee, scholarship matching services who guarantee success, advance-fee loan scams and sales pitches disguised as financial aid "seminars".
