WTC Basketball Team Spends Day with Local Seniors

The Western Texas College basketball team spent a Saturday with the seniors at Snyder Healthcare recentlySnyder Healthcare landscaping and playing games with residents, a day that head coach Jason Sautter said his players enjoyed tremendously.
“The residents are already asking for the guys to come back,” Sautter said. “We took the whole team and the players really had fun. We had one lady out there who was gardening with the guys and she had a blast telling them what to do.”
The visit is part of an ongoing effort by Sautter to expose his players to the community and to let the community get a chance to know the people behind the jersey numbers.
“We just want people to know our guys basically by their first name instead of saying ‘there’s a WTC basketball player’,” Sautter said. “I want people in town to understand that it’s their team, to and, in essence, it is.”
The team spent about two hours with the Snyder Healthcare seniors, time that the residents greatly enjoyed.
“It was great – our residents talked for days about how nice the boys were,” said Tammy Quick, activity director at the facility. “We really appreciated them taking their Snyder Healthcaretime to spend it with us.”
Sautter said his team will continue to be a presence in Snyder, for more than just public relations, but to build a bond between the community and the program. Last year, the team set up Taste of Scurry County at the Windmill Ranch Preserve and worked the White Buffalo Bikefest, an event they will work again this year setting up the stage.

“We want them to be able to embrace our team and in return want our guys to understand they are at a place where people care,” he said. “Snyder is not one of the biggest places in the world, but that doesn’t mean it is not one of the better places in the world.” Snyder Healthcare
