Seeking volunteer interns who are interested in gaining experience with virtual reference

This is a service using instant messaging available to students and patrons at:

• Western Texas College in Snyder, TX
• South Texas College in McAllen, TX
• Paris Junior College in Paris, TX
• Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX
• Odessa College in Odessa, TX
• Vernon College in Vernon, TX
• Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant, TX
• North Central Texas College in Gainesville, TX
• Texas State Technical College West Texas in Sweetwater, TX
• Ingleside Public Library in Ingleside, TX

Requirements: 

• Interns must be graduates of or currently enrolled students at an ALA-accredited graduate school program
• Interns must either be Texas residents or enrolled in an ALA-accredited graduate program based in Texas
• Interns must commit to volunteering at least two hours per week
• Volunteer interns should be able to commit to volunteering from January 18th-May14th 2010. Successful interns can continue volunteering in later semesters.
• Must have reliable access to a computer and the internet during that time.

You should consider this opportunity if:

• You have taken or are currently taking an introductory reference course
• Have a strong interest in virtual reference
• Have good communication skills
• Are comfortable with instant messaging software
• Are willing to work from a distance
