Tuition Waiver Guidelines

  1. Funding Limits: Opportunity Tuition Waiver will pay for a maximum of nine (9) credit hours per semester.  The waiver covers tuition and general fees, but DOES NOT cover books, lab fees, or distance learning fees.

Use of the Opportunity Tuition Waiver to pay for dual credit enrollment does not prohibit a student from applying for scholarships to attend Western Texas College as a full time student immediately after graduation from high school.

  1. Time Limit:  A student who maintains satisfactory academic progress is eligible for four (4) semesters of funding for dual credit coursework from the Opportunity Tuition Waiver.  The tuition waiver is available for fall and spring semesters only.  No summer or interim sessions are covered.
  1. Maintaining Eligibility:  Student must complete all credit hours attempted with a minimum grade point average of a 2.75.  If the student withdraws from the college credit portion of any dual credit course in which he/she is enrolled, the scholarship for that course will be forfeited.  If a student completely withdraws from all courses, the tuition waiver will be forfeited and the students will no longer be eligible to receive the tuition waiver.
  1. Tuition Waiver Renewal:  The tuition waiver is not automatically renewed; student MUST reapply for each year of enrollment.  To qualify for the tuition waiver for a second year of dual credit enrollment, student must have at least a 2.75 GPA and must complete another twenty (20) hours of community involvement activities at an approved site.  Only ten (10) of those hours can be from a religious organization.  Student must submit all documentation with their application to the WTC Director of Distance Learning by July 15th, preceding the academic year of enrollment.  Required documents to be filed with the director of Distance Learning:  Completed and signed application; Unofficial high school transcript; Community involvement activities TIME RECORD, Completed and signed dual credit eligibility form (dual credit eligibility form must be submitted each semester he/she applies for the Opportunity Tuition Waiver to the Director of Distance Learning).
